50 litre reaction vessel

The ChemReactor range consists of vessels constructed of glass lined steel with a section of Borosilicate glass allowing direct observation of the reaction in progress. The cylindrical portion allows the process to be viewed without the associated problems of viewing merely the surface through a sightglass.

ChemReactors are available from 15 to 250 litres. Systems up to 50 litres can be designed to fit into walk-in fume cupboards.

Buchiflex flexible glass joint

Flexible Joint

The glass overheads utilise the Buchiflex flexible joint, and all parts in contact with liquid or gas are glass, PTFE or Tantalum.

 

The Buchiflex flexible joint offers many advantages over the alternatives. The PTFE seal with 3 sealing surfaces is extremely good at holding vacuum, and because the seal is entirely surrounded by glass there are no problems with deformation at higher temperatures. The benefits of a flexible joint are many:

  • PTFE bellows are not needed in pipe runs as the glass can move to compensate for expansion
  • Pipe runs can be angled in order to drain, without special pieces being made
  • The systems are extremely easy to construct
  • The system is easy to modify and alter

Standard packages may be used for digestion, distillation, reflux, azeotropic separation, phase separation, etc. A full range of components and accessories are available and we specialise in providing custom rigs to customer requirements.

Agitation in ChemReactor

Agitator System

The agitator system consists of a two part impeller agitator and an adjustable baffle made of glass lined steel. A temperature measuring sensor (3 x Pt100) is installed in the tantalum tip in the baffle.

Agitator Drive

The agitator is driven by an explosion proof three phase motor (EExe II T4) with a continuously variable gearbox to provide high torque at low speeds.

Drain Valve

The manually operated DN50/40 mushroom type drain valve is glandless and seals flush with the bottom of the vessel. On request, drain valves can be supplied with built in temperature probes as well as a pneumatic actuator.

Temperature Measurement

Two Pt100 resistance thermometers are used to measure and control the product, vapour and condensate temperature.

Over pressure Protection

The unit is protected by a vacuum resistant graphite/PTFE bursting disc.
